Jose Mourinho and Frank Lampard congratulate Jurgen Klopp on ‘fully deserved’ new Liverpool deal
Jose Mourinho and Frank Lampard have both hailed Jurgen
Klopp ’s new Liverpool deal and say they are looking forward
to tussling with one of the league’s best coaches for another
few years.
The German – who has guided his side to top spot in the
Premier League after last season’s Champions League
triumph – announced on Friday that he had committed his
future to the Reds until 2024.
Klopp feels this is just the beginning of Liverpool’s success
but his Chelsea and Tottenham counterparts are eager to
embrace the challenge of stopping the league leaders over
the coming years.
Asked about Klopp’s extension, Chelsea boss Lampard said
on Friday: ‘Liverpool are a huge rival.
What Jurgen has built
has been incredible. Congratulations on the contract, it is
fully deserved.
‘We have so many great managers in the Premier League. I
love going up against the top managers so I’m pleased, not
disappointed. It is a challenge for us to bridge that gap.’
Tottenham boss Mourinho has shared the touchline with
Klopp on countless occasions and he too is glad that he will
be able to test his wits against his old adversary well into
the next decade.
On Klopp’s deal, Mourinho said: ‘I think it means that they
are all happy.
‘Jurgen is happy because if he’s not he doesn’t sign. And
they are happy because if they are not happy they don’t give
him a new contract.
‘But obviously I think great news for the Liverpool fans
because they love him, for the players, because it looks clear
that they like each other and the relation is very good.
‘And good news for the Premier League
becausewe want to
have the best players, the best coaches and he’s one of the
best. It is positive news for everyone.’
