Edu pushing for Arsenal to appoint Patrick Vieira

Patrick Vieira will have the support of former team-mate Edu
if he chooses to apply for the current managerial vacancy at
Arsenal , according to reports.
Unai Emery was sacked last month after a year-and-a-half in
charge at the Emirates, the first man to oversee the side
since the departure of Arsene Wenger .
The Spaniard improved the side in his first season as they
earned seven more points in the Premier League and
reached the final of the Europa League, but the team fell
apart on and off the field in the early stages of his second
campaign.
Interim boss Freddie Ljungberg has been charged with
rebuilding the squad’s confidence in the immediate future
but one of his former team-mates Vieira has been linked
with the full-time role.
Vieira began his coaching career in the Manchester City
youth set-up but is now in charge at Nice in Ligue 1 and is
said to be keen on the chance to return to the Premier
League.According to the Sunday Times, Vieira has told friends he
would like to come back to Arsenal, for whom he won three
Premier League titles and was part of the legendary
‘Invincibles’ line-up.
And another of his former Arsenal team-mates Edu, who is
now in technical director at the club, is reportedly backing
the Frenchman for the role.
Edu is not the only one either with another ex-Arsenal
midfielder Emmanuel Petit backing Vieira to do the job.I would like Vieira to be Arsenal manager, that an ex-Gunner
takes responsibility,’ he told French radio station RMC .
‘When I see what Frank Lampard is doing with Chelsea
despite it being his first big test with a big club, why not
imagine that the same success would be possible with a
former Gunner?
‘The problem with Freddie, is that I don’t know what he is
capable of. He was also Emery’s assistant.‘He saw what was happening internally and on the pitch, but
I never saw him take a position or try to communicate with
Emery or certain players. Arsenal need to take their time
here.’
The list of potential candidates for the job is thought to be
extensive as Arsenal cast the net far and wide to make sure
that they return to Champions League football as soon as
possible.
Former Juventus boss Max Allegri, Pep Guardiola’s assistant
Mikel Arteta and Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe are all
also being linked with the role.
