Pep Guardiola consoles Fred after suffering racist abuse in Manchester derby

Pep Guardiola personally sought out Fred in the aftermath of
the Manchester derby after the Manchester United midfielder
appeared to suffer racial abuse on Saturday afternoon.

The Manchester City manager was seen deep in
conversation with the Brazilian in the mixed zone after the
game, cupping his face in his hands while speaking to him
for 30 seconds.

It’s thought that the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich
boss was offering his unconditional support to Fred who was
also pelted with an object during United’s 2-1 win at theFred appeared to be the subject of monkey chants from one
supporter in the front row of the crowd, with Manchester City
vowing to ban him for life if he is indeed found guilty of
racism.

The 26-year-old insists he did not hear any racism from the
crowd but wasn’t surprised by the incident.
‘Unfortunately, we are still in a backward society. It is a
shame we still have to live with that in 2019,’ he said.

Etihad.‘Unfortunately, this is happening in some stadiums. It
happened here, it happened in Ukraine with some friends.
‘It’s sad, but we have to keep our heads up and forget about
that.’
He was shown footage of the fan’s abuse in the Manchester
United dressing room and added: ‘Thank God I have a lot of
friends here in the locker room who hugged me, like Jesse
Lingard. I don’t want to think about it. I just want to move
on.
‘We can’t give them any attention because that’s all they
want. I spoke to the referee after the match, they will do
something about it and that’s all.’
