Frank Lampard reveals what he told Duncan Ferguson after Everton stun Chelsea
Frank Lampard has revealed that he wished Duncan
Ferguson good luck in the side’s upcoming games after
Everton secured a massive three points against Chelsea on
Saturday.
The Toffees axed Marco Silva on Thursday and put club
legend Ferguson in charge, who was a very animated figure
on the sidelines as an early header from Richarlison and
brace from Dominic Calvert-Lewin sealed a 3-1 victory at
Goodison Park.
Before the full-time whistle was even blown, Lampard shared
a quick word with Ferguson on the touchline and
congratulated the Scot, while he felt Chelsea were a victim of
the fabled new manager bounce.
Asked what he said to Ferguson, Lampard explained: ‘I just
wished him all the best. He’s obviously a man who felt the
game passionately, you could see that and I understand that.
‘I just wished him all the best for the games they’ve got
coming up.’
On whether the match was made harder by the managerial
change, Lampard continued: ‘It was definitely a dangerous –
extra dangerous – time to play against Everton, because
they did have a bounce.
‘I expected it and they did. They’ve got good players. They’ve
got some good players, they’ve invested a lot here and got
good players, that’s why people are talking a lot about their
league position.
‘So I was aware, the players were aware, but practically you
have to deal with it.’
On his own side’s sloppiness at the back, Lampard added:
‘Yeah, all the goals I think [were sloppy]. The first goal was
something we were aware of, Richarlison in the air in the
box.
‘And then the other two are just really poor defending from
us. We were looking like we’d get back in the game at 2-1,
and then it’s ridiculous the goal we gave away.’
