Freddie Ljungberg unhappy with Mesut Ozil after Arsenal’s defeat to Manchester City
Freddie Ljungberg admits he’s unhappy with Mesut Ozil ’s
tantrum on the sidelines during Arsenal ’s defeat to
Manchester City on Sunday.
The Gunners were beaten 3-0 at home to the Premier League
champions as Kevin De Bruyne scored twice, while Raheem
Sterling also found the net before the break.
Ozil, meanwhile, struggled to make an impact and was
substituted after just 59 minutes.
The midfielder was booed by some supporters as he walked
slowly off the pitch and as he headed towards Arsenal’s
bench he folded his gloves into a ball and kicked them in
anger.
‘For me, I took Mesut off because I wanted more energy in
the team,’ Ljungberg told Sky Sports after the match.‘I thought Emile did really, really well when he came in.
‘How Mesut wants to react is up to him and that’ss somethingwe’ll deal with later.’
Asked what he meant by saying he will ‘deal’ with Ozil’s
incident, Ljungberg replied: ‘
First of all I’m here on a day to
day basis so we’ll see what that is for the future.
‘But of course we want players in the right way.’Despite the manner of their defeat against Pep Guardiola’s
side, Ljungberg admits he’s still ‘proud’ of his Arsenal
players.
‘They are the champions. I was proud of our boys. When you
look at the age of the side that finished it was not an old
side,’ said Ljungberg.‘I felt we kept the ball okay and played well.
But we couldn’t
get that final spark and when you are 2-0 and 3-0 down early
it takes the edge off.
‘The players showed spirit but it is hard to play at 3-0 down.
‘f you look you see the players and price tags they put in
from the bench, we have young kids who we put on. There is
a gulf but I am still proud of the boys.’
